Would adding a liner to my masonry chimney help prevent chimney fires?

by DoItYourself Staff

In addition to preventing noxious gases, like CO2, from seeping into your home, chimney liners can also prevent heat and flames from burning creosote in your masonry chimney, which could easily spread to combustible materials in your attic, such as roof trusses, attic beams and joists. With colder weather ahead, and with the likelihood of using a woodburning fireplace, you should be aware that chimney fires are a real possibility. If you haven't taken precautions to prevent these kinds of fires, you should determine if you should add a chimney liner.
