X10 Home Automation System: Pros and Cons

Cons 

Although the X10 home automation system is super-reliable and has a lot of advantages over other systems, there are some issues that may arise and you should keep them in mind. 

It can take some time for the signals to travel from the transmitters to the appliances. If you have a lot of appliances being controlled at the same time and some appliances even being controlled for similar functions and timings, the operation time further increases. So, if you’re looking for lightning-fast immediate action through the X10 system, don’t.  

Appliances that generate noise like vacuum cleaners or other appliances with motors may create problems. When the electrical noise is combined with codes that may be sent simultaneously to various devices, the X10 home automation system can sometimes miss some signals. This might sound like a serious problem but can be taken care of by installing a noise filter device though. 

Also, if you’re trying to run the X10 system with appliances across 2 different electrical phases, that is, the transmitter on one phase and the appliances on another, there can be problems again. Though not a serious problem, the missing of some signals to control appliances can be very annoying for some initially. Installing a phase coupler device however, can easily help you solve this problem too.
