Meghan: Flooring is like the base of an outfit. Sometimes, you need something other than the standard white tank top.
You know sometimes carpet and wood floor just do not work in the room. You need something more interesting, more exciting. As I like to mix things up, I like to use natural stone. Now sure, there are tons of different types of natural stone you can use but today, it is all about limestone and I am so excited because limestone is one of my favorite.
Looking at the outside of Impression, you will never know what houses some of the most beautiful stone in the world, lime stone. All right, I think it is one of the most beautiful stones and while walking through the rows upon rows of limestone with the owner Ronald Williams, I could not help but wonder why more people do not use limestone flooring. There must be some extra advantages to using limestone other than it being gorgeous.
Oh your floor is so beautiful. Limestone floor is so gorgeous. What is the advantage other than it being beautiful if you are going to put limestone in your home?
Ronald: Very little maintenance really. Once it has been sealed with a penetrating sealer, it just lathered. All of it was lathered, yes.
Meghan: So it would not stain?
Ronald: Not really. You can spill lime juice, ketchup. That is it, it wipes off right away.
Meghan: Wow!
Ronald: Plus it is also interesting. I mean here it is a mix of two different stones, one that is kind of the dark beige and looks a bit lighter but has a lot of fossils into it. Kids love it.
Meghan: Do you ever have problems with the cracking?
Ronald: No we recommend putting a membrane between the concrete slab and the stone. This way if there is any crack in the concrete slab, it does not migrate to the stone.
Meghan: Oh, so the stone pore is protected.
Ronald: They are protected. They are independent from the concrete slab.
Meghan: Exactly what I wanted to hear, a floor that is beautiful, easy to maintain and does not crack but what about comfortable to walk on?
Is it comfortable to walk on?
Ronald: Yes go ahead, take your shoes off. Go for it.
Meghan: Walk through your showroom without shoes?
Ronald: Yes it is comfortable. As I would say, if you stay away from the pillow edges which do look great, but are uncomfortable when you get through to cutting the joint there but otherwise, it is very comfortable. You can wake up in the morning, walk directly on it bare feet, no problem.
Meghan: No problem.
Ronald: No problem, you would not feel that much shocked.
Meghan: Comfortable too, I could barely contain myself and once I saw all of the different finishes, I was so.
So there are different types of finishing on the limestone?
Ronald: Dozens of different types of finishing, yes.
Meghan: Really.
Ronald: Brushing, honing, sand blasting, pillow blasting and then after that the edges where we can make the edges uneven, we can pillow different ways, the edges too. We can really age the stone to make them look hundreds of years old when we wear them out and then of course the plain. There is the plain, just the plain honing, like this or even like this. And you look at these colors, they go with everything.
Meghan: Literally. Limestone looks beautiful with any style and any color scheme. So today's takeaway is that limestone flooring is really easy to maintain, really beautiful and comes in a wide variety of different patterns but the real lesson is to change things up a bit. We do not want to wear the same outfit everyday so why should every floor in our home be the same?
So the top three reasons to visit AsktheDecorator.com are one, I am pretty cool and I can be funny if I try. Two, we have got an awesome web design.
