A couple of other ways to customize the application include the ability to customize keyboard shortcuts. So choose Edit keyboard shortcuts and this dialogue box opens. You will notice that there are two sets to start off with. There is the default set and there is also a shortcut set for a Microsoft Word users that will emulate some of the words behavior and you can also create your own set by clicking a New Set button. I will give it a name like Favorites, base it on an existing set and click OK. And now to customize your shortcuts, you would select a product area. For example, maybe you do a lot of work with tables and maybe I want to command for converting text to tables, maybe I think that is just something I am going to do all the time and I think that is the coolest feature. So, in the new shortcut field, I basically press the entire left side of my keyboard, Control-Shift-Alt-T. On the Mac I could have chosen Command-Shift-Option-T. It tells me that currently, that keyboard shortcut is unassigned, that is good because you find that many shortcuts are already taken and I will be happy with that. Click the assign button and click OK when I am done.

If I want to choose one of the other sets, maybe if I want to go back the default set, I can do that as well so I can switch sets, click OK when I am all finished. Now, the last area that you want to know about again is the general application preferences, so you can choose edit, preferences general or preferences general from the application menu on the Mac that will open up your preferences dialogue box. Most of the settings in here are pretty self explanatory and I am just going to give you a cursory overview when there are specific preferences that you need to be aware of. We will work through those later in the training but for example, you have specific control over whether you use typographer's quotes that is a curly quotes, instead of fitting in inch marks. You have options for example to Triple Click to Select the Line. So, a double click selects a word, triple click selects a line and so on.

So there is a lot of options and lots of different of categories for example, you can control your note color and formatting, you can control also its options related to the colors and styles, of track text changes and you also have access to your Galley and story display settings that we just took to pick up. So, when we visit this as we move to the disk in specific areas but just note that the general props are there and ready for you to customize the application really however you need. When you are done adjusting your preferences, click OK. That is a basic overview of the InCopy workflow and the InCopy interface. Now, let us jump to the next lesson and actually get started making our own documents.
