Decorative glasses are a wonderful accessory, but before you look for any, here are few tips on how to choose the right decorative glass piece for your home.

I am hitting the road, searching for answer and finding great design. It is the quest for beauty, function and of course inspiration.

Purchasing decorative glass is an easy as you or I would think. There are many things to consider before you make that type of investment and if you just walk in and pick up a piece you like, you may end up buying decorative glass you cannot use or would not be able to display. I know I would have, but after my chat with Merilee Burnside, director of tours and activities at Glasswork. I felt pretty confident that I could choose the best decorative glass piece for my home and situation.

The first thing to consider is how you will use the decorative glass. Now if I were to buy of piece decorative art glass,

Merilee: Yes.

Female: What do you need to take into consideration?

Merilee: Well several factors. First of all where are you going to be putting it in your home and how you are going to be using it? Much of the glass art you would find in our gallery has either scups troll use or a functional use and/or both.

Female: Sculpture of pieces of decorative glass are one that are use only as a display items where function pieces can be use as balls, vases, etc and it is not that easy to tell them a part, in fact most people think sculptural pieces are actually functional one. And we are talking with Merilee, I made mistake.

Merilee: These pieces of one glass are—I consider to be sculptural. I would not put water or flower into this piece because I will clean the inside surface.

Female: You know my first thought was put a little flower in it.

Merilee: Well maybe a soft flower.

Female: Yes, but you cannot clean it.

Merilee: Exactly. Now this lovely cast glass volt very functional fruit. Other objects you can put it in there, it was no problem at all.

Female: Another thing to consider is how you will display your decorative glass. Is there anything else you need to consider?

Merilee: Making lighting is very, very important when you are deciding on a purchase of glass art. If you have a piece of beautiful pieces in darken room, you might as well path it because lights are very important in showing the design, the detail, and the color coming out of the piece. As the matter of fact in gallery, we have mired surfaces that we show a lot of the pieces because of the reflected nature of the light that we are able to bounce back up into the art as well as the direct lighting on the objects.

Female: So make sure you plan for place to show off your glass near home whether it is on shelf, table or hanging on a wall. And when you take all of these things into consideration, you will be able to buy a beautiful piece of decorative glass that becomes a focal point in your home.
