How to Make an Earthquake

Tips and Tricks

Hi there! My name is Tom Skowronski with videomaker and magazine. And today on VIN cast, we are going to show how to make an earthquake.

The first thing that we needed to do this effect was timing out our overacting and sinks with the camera motion and the movement of the car.

Next we needed our friend groper to shake the car off camera. The final step was to have the shooter shake the camera back and fort. After adding some foil, we have a 4.7 on the direct scale.

Well, as you could see the best way to achieve the earthquake effect is to add the most amount emotion to the camera as possible. When you are close up, you want a little bit less emotion of the camera and more motion from your physical surrounding.

Close up means emphasis on emotion. In this case since we see less, you need more emotion from our subject to sell the action. Again, we use the same technique to create our earthquake by having groper shake our car and our shooter shakes the camera.

Well as you could see the earthquake effect outdoor is very easy. Indoors, we are going to need a tag bit more emotion. Indoors, the focus center is more around the actions surrounding the subject to sell the environment that surrounds out. More overacting, and the use of five stock empty boxes where enough to do the trick. This is so easy that you could do on a coffee break.

The use of a strong attractive stage hand to push and tag behind the cabinets made for excellent B roll which help sell the effect after we have added or folie.

Well as you can see, the best way to achieve this effect is by adding a little emotion from our camera and a little emotion from our crew.
