If you got diabetes, here is a tip on how to keep an eye on your sugar levels without numbing your fingertips.
If you are uncomfortable with frequent finger pricks, you may want to try one of the new methods for blood glucose testing approved by the Federal Drug Administration.
One of these is a glucose meter that test alternative and sometimes less painful signs like the upper arm or thigh.
Another the minimally invasive Medtronic MiniMed is inserted under the skin to measure glucose levels over 72-hour periods. The results are then downloaded on to the computer to be read.
A final testing method, the non-invasive Cygnus GlucoWatch Biographer is worn on the arm like a wrist watch. It pulls small amount of fluids from the skin and can measure the glucose levels up to three times in a 12-hour period.
Remember, abnormal glucose levels need to be treated immediately whether with a snack, insulin injection or medication. Discuss the best ways to monitor your glucose with you doctor.
