Water Feature: Cementing stones around your pond

I have had this water feature here for about a season and I really like it. So, I want to make it a more permanent fixture in my garden and I am going to mix some mortar and lay these stones back in around the pond.

I am going to mix my mortar now. I got a bag of Quikrete here and I am just going to mix up half of the bag first. It is an 80 pound bag of concrete so imagine with water, it is very heavy. So, I want to just start with half. Now, this contains lime so you definitely want to make sure you got your safety goggles on. I have fashionable safety goggles and gloves on. I have mixed a lot of concrete in my day, let me tell you and nothing get any easier but it is fun. This is a test to make sure that your mortar is properly mixed. You want to grab it and see how it is just staying firmly on the trowel here? If it came down like a liquidly mess off this trowel then you know that it is too loose.

Now, I am just going to dump the concrete. Looks like I am going to need quite a bit. Now that we got the concrete mix, we really want to jam and do this as quickly as possible. If I put too much cement, the weight of the rock is just going to allow it to sink down and you want to go through and just want to put your mortar in between each rock and then just smooth it out the way I am doing.

So, pond is almost finished filling up and while it does that, I am going to finish replanting my raise as bed. I just got to go through and mulch this bed but before I do, I want to turn on my pump and see if Mr. Froggy is working. Yes! Success! It works! My pond works. Oh! I had such a great day today.
