Hi! I am Doctor Lauren at petside.com and your pet can get injured outside, running in the yard, or playing with another animal. If your pet does get a cut, you should get it to the veterinarian as soon as possible. If you can't get to the vet right away, I am going to show you how to keep the cut clean.

If your pet does get cut, you should see your veterinarian. There are some cuts that require stitches to heal properly. If you can't get to your vet right away, you definitely want to make sure to keep the cut clean. The first thing you want to do is get the hair out of the side where your pet was cut. You can do this by either wetting the hair down or if you have clippers, you can gently cut the hair away from the cut. Do not use scissors to remove the hair.

The next thing you want to do is flush the area out. You can either use hydrogen peroxide or warm water. Do not put alcohol in the cut because this could really sting your pet. So all you have to do is take some warm water or peroxide and gently clean up the cut.

Now this pet doesn't actually have a cut but you can see what I am doing. And at the same time, I just move the hair away from the side that I want to clean. Then you can use an antibiotic ointment, that you can get in your local pharmacy like neosporin and you could gently place that on the cut. Now the cut should be nice and clean, and you can get your pet to your veterinarian.
