Lying
It's no secret that it's parents who passed on morals and values to their children. Your child will learn honesty and dishonesty where they live in the home. Preschool children that lie usually don't have a serious problem. Sometimes they have a hard time distinguishing the difference between reality and fantasy and boy do they love to tell elaborate tale.
This is most common in preschool children who still have an amazing fantasy life and can't yet distinguish the difference between right and wrong. Children may also lie to avoid being punished or because they are imitating adult behavior. Parents are the most important role models for their children. When a child lies, take some time to have a serious discussion about the difference between make believe and reality. The difference between lying and telling the truth.
The importance of honesty at home and in the community. Teach them alternatives of lying. Have them ask a grownup for help. Or encourage your child to ask to borrow a desired toy instead of just taking it. If you know your child has stolen something and claims they did not, you can say sometimes kids want things so bad that they take it, because they feel that no one will give it to them.
Do you ever feel that way? Let's talk about this. If your child develops a pattern of lying that is serious and repetitive, then professional help from a family therapist is recommended.
