How to Decorate a Half Bath

Irwin: Welcome to Design2Share Q&A. I am Irwin.

Nicola: And I am Nicola. Today we are asking, "What should I consider when decorating my half bath old powder room?"

Irwin: Well firstly, I think one should realize how he important the day is. It has very good reason. In fact, in KBA, the National Kitchen Bowl Association has added that to one of the categories for competitions. People look to that when they are buying a house. It is not very expensive to do. You do not have to tile the powder room. You do not have to have a bathroom of your own tub of course. Even though you can have one in a bathroom, it is used as a powder room. But of course, a half bath, being a half bath does not have a tub or shower.

Nicola: Right, so choose carefully. Choose your fixtures carefully in your fittings. It could be a little bit more special. And off you see if it is a half bath, it is something genuinely on the first floor that your guest are going to use all the time, so it is not specific, it is an upstairs bathroom maybe, but people do not see it as often. Just go the extra length maybe a little bit with fun.

Irwin: Having it could be quite funny. Could be quite quirky when you say it is a place to have your collection. We have a cascading in a bathroom here that has a collection of beautiful Japanese paintings and why not? It is something to contemplate when using the powder room. I think it is perfect.

Nicola: Also, it is fun place to have your family pictures maybe. It does not have to be just a collection, things that you would not ordinarily probably put around the house, but can be found in the powder room.

Irwin: One does not realize that one spends a lot of time on the toilet in one's lifetime.

Nicola: Indeed. How much time do you spend?

Irwin: About three years without flushing and without reading. Guess, you know, it is of course why the Americans refer to bathroom as rest room.

Nicola: I have no idea.

Irwin: To rest their worries and think less. I just made that out. History of course, the bathroom is quite well known. They were flush toilets actually in Roman times. And often times that compare it to little garden sheds and so on, but still, people do use latrines and having flushing toilet for many people in the world quite luxurious.

Nicola: Indeed, and also now being green of to save water consumption is something we need to take note of and obviously if you are going to update your bathroom, have powder room, be aware of that and maybe choose options such asâ€¦

Irwin: You can have water consumer in fact, this is actually some and it is just come on the market despite the remarkable. Most toilets, in fact all toilets in the United States is now one-and-a-half gallon flush toilets, which is important. Any ideas to get toilets that flush well, if it is a less quantity of water that is used to flush the toilet, you should not flush toilets. So you should have a good quality toilet.

Nicola: Also lightings and some things spelling water in a powder and actually the most flattering in lighting is it concerns on some kind of fixtures either side of the mirror and usually you do have a mirror above the basin if you are going to powder your nose or cossets.

Irwin: Right and the reason for that is not having a light above the medicine cabinet shines down a new face. It could tell us from the top of the eyes whereas on the either side balances the light ray it reflect. Another great thing is to have the extractor fan at the bottom of the toilet, running on the ceiling.

One other thing we would like to do is that if the bathroom is used, if it is near the bedroom or if it is near a room that you do not want to be such a strong light when using the bathroom, put it dimmer or have a second small or large. Light source absolutely.

In closing, we want to summarize and say that we recommend of course, doing a bathroom, doing a powder room and doing it well. It simply adds a resale value to your house and it is not that expensive to do, so have fun and enjoy it. I am Irwin.
