Maricar on the woods today and they have an exhibit going on called art goes wild. And one of the aspects of these is to sort of take native plants, are in conservation and bring them all together. I am going to bring in Debra Strick, who is the marketing director here. We are going to talk about four elements of this particular thing.

David Epstein: So, tell me about what I am looking at here, just spectacular?

Debra Strick: It is sage lawn and each one of these little plugs will grow, grow up, grown on and form a full lawn. It does not require mowing more than a couple times a year, very luminous.

David Epstein: What about watering with this?

Debra Strick: Of course you have to water them when you plant.

David Epstein: Sure.

Debra Strick: But it does not require any supplemental watering.

David Epstein: So, these is a little bit more drought tolerant than my regular lawn?

Debra Strick: Absolutely.

David Epstein; And around this space, we have this really cool fence.

Debra Strick: Yes. This is a recycled use of pruning from the red twig dog woods.

David Epstein: Here is a completely unique way to have very unusual plants.

Debra Strick: Is not that great? Yes. Well, here at the Archos Wild Show, the idea of again, using materials that we have in our yards and in our landscapes. Anyway, such as these leaves which make a real drain on resources, if you throw them in the trash and do it, they can be easily recycled in these beautiful leaf columns and, in this case it is oak leaves which do not compose quickly but overtime will pack down, more leaves can be put in, animals will find their way in and become a nesting area.

David Epstein: I often plant for people. Foundation plantings and it is a challenge to make it look unique and sustainable and it seems like you have done that here, tell me about this.

Debra Strick: Here we have a beautiful yellow birches in a curve form, giving the unity, the repetition. And you have a variety of beautiful shrubs, ground covers working together, different lower ground covers filing in.

David Epstein: And this is a little bit more sustainable probably than some of the other things that I would bring in to put in the foundation.

Debra Strick: Absolutely, these are plants that have with stood the test of time in this area. They are adopted to this condition.

David Epstein: Thanks Deb. Well, four unique things that you can do around your home that certainly bring conservation, are in native plants right in to your yard. Hope you will come back to growingwisdom.com often and check out all of our videos.
