How to Make Your Wood Siding Last
Video Transcript
You know, if you are getting some wood siding and put up on your house soon or maybe a remodelled job like this one, oh, I have got some great tips to share with you that will make sure that the paint job on the siding and the siding itself will last for many many years. One of the things I like to do before we start and we have talked about this in a previous segment, is make sure that you would go ahead and pre prime and pre paint the wood siding before it goes up. Once a carpenter also cuts in end of the siding, get ready to put it into place. Make sure you prime that unpainted end. That is where the water gets in and sucks into the paint and sucks into the wood and it will cause the paint to fail prematurely at the edges. Now, another thing you want to do, here is a neat trick, to make sure your spacing is equal as it goes up, cut yourself a neat little gauge block at pre set distance for your exposure. If it is going to be four and a quarter inches exposure, then make a little block that spaces the wood siding, that distance issue, work your way up the wall. Now, finally, when you put two pieces of siding together, you want to make sure that you put a piece of metal flashing behind it so that if those pieces of wood separate and water gets between them, it will not get behind the piece of siding below.
You know, putting up wood siding is really not that tough. Remember; follow those quick tips and your wood siding will last for a long long time.
