How to Replace a Door Knob by HomeAdditionPlus.com

As someone once told me, a house is not self-maintaining and that includes doorknobs. Hi, I am Mark Donovan from HomeAdditionPlus.com and today, I am going to show you how to replace a simple doorknob.

So first, we will begin by removing the old doorknob. We just remove the two screws off the back of the door. So once we removed the screws off the back of the doorknob, we can just separate the two pieces and pull them off the door. Next, we will remove the old latch assembly by just pushing our screwdriver to the right and pointing out the latch. Now, I am going to slide in the new latch assembly and we are going to slightly chisel out an area to make sure the latch plate fits against the door. So I am going to mark it with a pencil and then use a chisel to quietly clean this area out approximately 16th of an inch.

Okay, now that we have chiseled out a little bit of material for that latch, we can slide it in and then attach our woodscrews to firmly hold the latch in place. Now we take the doorknob itself with the lock side on the inside of the room and slide it into the latch assembly and then we put the front portion of the doorknob over. And we line up the screws and we will just put the screws and this doorknob will be done.

All right, so now that we have the doorknob on tightly, we are going to put the new - and then this doorknob project will be all set. First, remove the old one and we will install the new one. They should fit nicely over the existing holes. So now that we have the straight plate on in the door knob, we are ready to give the door knob a test.

Okay, so with our new doorknob on, we will give it a try and make sure it latches properly. It looks good! So that is it. If you have any other home improvement questions, visit us at HomeAdditionPlus.com today.
