Hi! I'm Mark Donovan from HomeAdditionPlus.com. And today, I'm going to talk to you about orbital floor sanders.

What we've got here is a 12x18-inch floor sander that we're using on a mahogany deck. This mahogany deck as you can see is in really rough shape and so what I'm using is we've got an orbital sander, 18x12-inch with one inch padding and I'm using a 36-inch brick material. You might want to start out in an 80 or 60 and then if it's not doing a decent job, work yourself down to a 36 brick or maybe even a 20 brick.

We're going to sand this whole deck and turn this deck into something that looks brand new. To use the floor sander, you tilt the back, put your sand paper down on the floor, put your one-inch pad down on top of the sand paper. Then roll your floor sander directly over the pad. All the pins that lock the handle to the unit and I'll rotate it. Get the on switch and basically it'll going to make smooth flowing actions back and forth across the floor.

Now, as you can see that floor sander is doing a fairly decent job on the deck. It's important to sweep it occasionally just continue to rub in the dust that you're bringing up.

So after about two hours of work, I finally got the section of the deck done. It's a slow process. You've got to be patient but the difference is incredible. It's been scrapped basically down to the raw wood. I'll probably sand it lightly with another finer sand paper and then we'll put a sealer on the deck and this project will be done.

So if you're looking for resurfacing your deck or redoing your deck, consider getting an orbital sander. It's great for taking off the deck surface relatively quickly.
