You can specify slide backgrounds on your slide masters on your slide layouts or in the individual slides in your presentation and to do that, you just select the slide master layout or slide itself.

In this case, we are going to make the blank slide layout black. And to do that, we select it, click background styles and you will see you will have options here. The colors of your background styles are actually based on those text and background light and dark combinations that we saw in the slide colors scheme and we can just choose black. Let us take a look at some of the options you have on working with your background styles. If we go here and choose our section header to work with and then revisit the background styles dialogue, you will see that some of the themes have specialized background lighting and textures and various things specified in this background styles gallery.

In this case, we have some textures that you can apply with just one click or lighting elements nice gradient. Again, you can apply those just by clicking, you can also choose format background and you could fill your slide with the texture or a different gradient or a picture by default when you choose picture or text refill, you do again the texture but you can also then click insert from file and choose any picture on your hard drive.

If you choose apply to all, it applies to all of your slides, otherwise, it applies just to the slide you have selected. If you completely messed up, just click reset background and that will take you back to the original setting. Because this is a section header, we want to keep the Gradient fill background, so we will choose the gradient fill, once again from the background styles gallery and finally, you can hide background graphics on various slide layouts. So let us select this slide layout and then choose the Hide Background graphics option to see what happens. The logo and the black bars surrounding our title both disappeared. Click it again to turn those back on. You can use this option to turn off various elements that maybe present on your slide master that you do not want to have appeared on any individual slide layout.
