Building green means working with nature and not against it.
Our first goal is to harmonize with the site, real estate folks like to say location, location, location in the same is really true in ecological design. Our second goal which is somewhat ironic for architects is to build as little as possible, and that for us is trying to be space efficient as we can. The third goal is that building should be able to keep and cool themselves and generate their own electricity. The fourth goal is to maximize resource efficiency understanding where materials come from and what the resources are behind them and also integrating natural building systems such as straw bale, randerath, copper, or adobe, where it is appropriate. And then the final goal for us is to show the ecological design can be beautiful and bring it to the main stream.
Green Building is a really different way of thinking about how we build buildings and homes. It is a way addressing energy issues into our air quality and next for healthier less expensive places to live and work. But, we are finding also that it really has qualities beyond that to finding work places with daylight and good indoor air quality. Where people are healthier and happier, more sales per square foot are higher in stores and school for children to have much higher performance in test scores. This is really the essence of what it is about; yes we are improving the environmental performance but we are making better places for people.
Creating healthier environments at home and at work is what Green Building is all about. By combining eco-friendly construction techniques and solutions with nontoxic and energy efficient products any space can be made greener. The good news is that finding those alternatives is becoming easier everyday and the misconception that going green is unaffordable is simply just not true.
Costs are coming down for a lot of these materials, some green materials are less expensive than the standard stuff that we used for years.
Remember, there are a lot of healthy choices for you and the planet, so if you going to build it. Build it green.
