Hi! I am David Epstein and welcome to Growing Wisdom and let me talk you today about under story trees. So, I am standing underneath a Korean Mountain Ash. Now, this is obviously not leafed out yet. But underneath is a small little tree or shrub, this is a Lindera Obtusiloba and this is a wonderful under story tree because of the early spring blossoms and they are just spectacular, this great small yellow little blossoms almost reminds me of a Cornish moss.

The smell is just absolutely fantastic, it really smells like honey and this particular tree gets these great leaves during the course of the summer. It is a little bit tough to find but if you search local nurseries, you can find it. We have one of these. You can put them in the woods and it will grow anywhere from six to maybe eight feet tall staying fairly small and does very nice underneath the canopy of a larger tree and you can enjoy the wonderful flowers and the scent.

It is also great early in the spring for things like bees because it is not a lot blooming so the bees will go to the sky and begin to pollinate so you will be something beneficial for the environment as well. We want you to come back every week for all of our garden tips here at GrowingWisdom.com
