Hey everyone, I am Eric Rochow and this is Real World Green, a show about practical things you can do to reduce your impact on the earth. Today, I am going to help you liberate your garage. Do you have like a ton of stuff in your garage or in your basement that you think is valuable in some way or someone could actually do something with it, but you quite haven't figured out what to do with it yet? Well, I have the answer for you. Its called freecycle, freecycle.org. Freecycle.org is an Umbrella organization that has bunches of local chapters in different cities and towns across the US and it other countries, 75 countries by the way and it basically allows people to list things that they have, that they want to give away, usable items and allows people to post things that they are looking for and the two shall meet, I guess that the two meet, anyway.

On the web, people meet and an exchange is made, there is no money exchange, its freely, I have something I would like to give away and its an usable item and there is someone out there, thats going through the list and think, oh I could use that. Say you are upgrading your washing machine, you want to get one of those new fancy kind with the front and all that and you so have a Toppler that works great, just list it on freecycle, someone will come get it. Its a lot better then taking it and put it out in the curve for the sanitation truck to come.

Freecycle keeps 300 million tons of usable items out of waste stream everyday. They have 4 million members and I think that's really, really cool and its a Grassroots nonprofit effort. They have local chapters, they have their local person that runs each group and I just love that kind of thing, its really simple, your garage is going to be clean, that stuff that you have been holding on to, you can just let go of it. I listed an HP printer I have but I have been wanting to give it away to somebody and none of friends had wanted it, so I put up on freecycle this morning, now let's see what happens. Alright, come to the Green house and tell us your freescycle stories, will you or send me an email, eric@realworldgreen.com and make it a great day. I will see you.
