Master the Short Chip - Golf Tips
Video Transcript
Joe here, I am going to show you how to make a Short Chip shot. Every once in while you find yourself in this predicament way, you have had good shot-up by the green, just off the edge, you have got a little area to carry the ball on to the green and then you want the ball, to roll to the hole like a putt. You can see this high grass here, you are unable to putt through it, so you have to chip over it. What I am going to use today is my 60 degree wedge, and this wedge is going to help me get the loft, I need to get it over this first cutter grass and then let it roll to hole like a putt.
The setup that we are going to use is really the setup, that we use for most short shots. You can have the ball more centered in your stance, the weight is going to be on your front foot, and then you want to make sure that the club shaft is always leaning towards your target. If the club shaft lean backwards, then the ball is going to be miss hit. So in other words, if the club shaft comes in and looks more like this then you are either going to blade the ball across the green or hit behind it.
What we are trying to achieve is making sure that the club shaft stays forward, the whole time during the shot, here is how it works. Ball positioned in the center, weight on your front foot, lean the shaft towards your target and make sure the club shaft stays towards your target. That's what I am talking about. That's what I am talking about.
