Hey, how are you doing? Come here a second. Hi, I am Tim Carter from AskTheBuilder.com. I have got a little problem. I am on this job; the homeowners want to put in a sink in this location and the actual drain and vent line for that sink is going to be right here in this stud cavity. And the plumbing code requires that the vent pipe for this new drain make a cross right about here to connect to the existing vent line that vents the shower drain. But the problem is this copper waterline is right in the way. Look at this copper line.
So I thought originally, wow, I am going to have to cut this, solder it, move that copper waterline around this vent line. That is too much work. There has to be an easier way. So I had looked up, and watch this. There is nothing wrong with slugging this wide pipe all the way up here. Up here, and look, all of a sudden, right here, there is no more copper waterline, and I can drill through these two studs just like what I was going to do below, and make the connection up here to the other vent line.
Well that is good news, here is why. Because the plumbing code allows me to make the connection as high up as I want to. The lesson I want you to learn from this is that when you are faced with the similar situation, do not get frustrated. Just stop and think it through, and look at what all your options might be. Talk to your local inspectors, and see if you can make a connection at another location that meets the code. It is that simple. I do not know about you, but I have got to get back to work.
