Hey everyone, I am Eric Rochow and this is Real World Green.

Today, another one of those simple things that you can do to reduce your impact on the earth -- batteries.

You know, I really did not think about this until the other day. I have some rechargeable batteries and I was plugged them into the charger and I thought you know, I even did not think of it but this is a really green think to do.

And then, I did some research on it and it is just one of those kinds of dead simple things that I just wanted to tell you about it.

Using recycled rechargeable batteries instead of just of disposable batteries is one of those super green things, and it is kind of like the coffee cup analogy. Remember last time, we are talking about reusing your cup instead of having to have to make a brand new cup each time, it is the same thing.

When you want to use batteries, use your rechargeable batteries.

These new batteries now, they have come along way as far as technology. These are they NiMH or Nickel Metal Hydride batteries. And, I also found you need to buy a quality set of batteries and a charger. Do not just buy the cheap things at the dollar store. But these do really do work.

We have a radio in the bathroom and I use these and it runs forever. And then, you just recharge these, and it runs forever again.

I mean, everyone path thing awe. It is obvious but think about it.

To make a battery, you have to have a factory. You have to use a lot of chemicals. You have to have packaging. You have to transport the batteries to the store.

Using rechargeable batteries, you get rid of a lot of that. You still have the v battery, you use a little bit of electricity to charge and you are backup again, and then, you just use it again.

So, that is it. That is the tip of the week here from Real World Green. Rechargeable batteries; use your charger. I have a charger here somewhere.

Yeah, you just put them in here, and boom, it is done!
