A reciprocating saw is a great tool to have in your toolbox. It is great for getting hard to reach places and is excellent for cutting both wood and metal material.

Hi! I am Mark Donovan from homeadditionplus.com and today, I will talk a little bit about reciprocating saws. There are a variety of reciprocating saws in the market today. There are the cord ones such as the one we have here and there is also new cordless ones as well. There are styles that are straight angle versions like what I have here and then there is also variable angle reciprocating saws as well.

What I really like about a reciprocating saw is the number of applications it can support whether for cutting different types of material. And what makes it achievable is the types of blades that can be used on a reciprocating saw. There are of course wide teeth such as this one here. And then there are finer teeth saw blades such as this and there is even finer ones. Depending on the type of cut you are trying to make, whether it be a rough cut or a finished cut or if you are cutting wood or metal, you use a different style of blade. There are even blades out in the market today that can be used for trimming treat.

When looking to purchase a reciprocating saw, there are number of key features you want to look for in the saw itself. One, you want to make sure there I a good grip for both hands. Both for the trigger hand as well as for handling up near the blade. Another key feature to look for when you are purchasing a reciprocating saw is the ampere rate. This particular model is rated for six and a half amps. Typically, the ratings are between five and 15 amps for reciprocating saw with 15 amps being the most powerful of reciprocating saws. The six and a half amp model seems to be sufficient for my home applications. The other feature to look for is the variable speed control which allows you to have a little bit more control over the cut that you are making on the piece of wood or metal.

A reciprocating saw is a very dangerous saw. As a result, you need to take extra precautions when you are using one. First of all, always wear eye protection. Second, wear a pair of leather work gloves. And third wear some ear protection.

So, reciprocating saw is an excellent tool to own. You just need to exercise some caution when using one.
