I am getting ready to hang this vintage Victorian wall paper. Is it not gorgeous? You know what is going to make the job go really fast and easy. It is because I am going to use the right tools. Let me show what tools I liked to use when I install wall paper.

You know the basic tools I used to hang a wall paper are a tape measure, a razor knife, a variety of metal knife blades, levels, a smoothing brush or plastic smoothing tool and a large synthetic sponge. It is really important to get the right razor knife

I loved the ones that come with scoured blades that snap off when you need to have a perfectly sharp edge to make a critical cut. Those razor blades will tear what wall paper. The metal knife blades are used to hold the paper tight against places where the paper is going to be cut like a ceiling or wood work of any type.

You need to use a level to ensure the wall paper is plan each time you cut out that inside corner or you start a new piece of paper on the wall. Sometimes, you may have to use a small little torpedo level to plan a piece above a window or a door.

The smoothing brush or plastic smoothing tool, its job is to remove all the air bubbles that are in the paper and it also helps to actually push down this paper on the edges. This is really important so that you get invisible seams.

I used a regular sponge to wipe off all excess glue from the paper and any adjacent surfaces. Rinse this sponge frequently and change the water often. You have got to make sure that there is no glue on the paper and no glue on any of the painted wood work.

I forgot to tell you about a couple of very important tools. You are going to probably need a paint brush, maybe a paint roller or rolling pin to apply the wall paper paste or the paste activator in case you are working with pre-paste wall paper. I would love the paste activators. They are really fantastic.

One other thing, you will need to have a flat surface to either paste on and cut your paper. It can be a nice wall paper table like this. It collapses down or if you just want to use a nice clean piece of plywood even on two turbid-turned garbage cans, that is fine. Just remember, you need a big area to put that area to put that paper art on.
