Jordan Johnson is a native of Houston, Texas. He grew up working in woodshops with his dad, the first piece of furniture he built was a stool so he could reach the bandsaw. His skills in woodworking contributed to his interest in sculpture, his major at the Kansas City Art Institute along with creative writing. While in Kansas City Jordan worked out in the Missouri wilderness on a patch of land called Seven Rivers, building cabins, lean-to's, and practicing other traditional and non-traditional methods of building. After graduating in 2010 Jordan went on to teach sculpture and other media at the High School for Performing and Visual Arts. His most recent endeavor has been in New York. He first moved to Rockaway, New York to participate in a residency program rebuilding junk boats into liveable installations that guests from the city rent like hotel rooms. Jordan remained in Rockaway for the summer working on boats, rebuilding engines, swimming in the ocean, and living the good life. Following his stint on the water he moved to Bushwick, where Jordan and two other roommates transformed their basement, once a dog fighting ring and flophouse, into an art gallery. Jordan is now developing a series of product-based sculptures for apartments and other forms of micro-architecture.
