What is the best way to match an existing paint?

I want to do some touch up on my existing drywall. I have tried three types of paint using those different color paper at the paint store to match but so far it does not match at all. What are some methods/ways to match existing paint when you're touching up existing drywalls?

Best is to use some of the original paint if you've got it. Next best would be to take a sample of your paint to have the store scan it and make a matching paint.

Repaint the entire wall, you will never match an existing paint close enough that it wont stand out!

Repaint the whole wall is the best way but I'm trying to avoid a lot of work if possible. I can't really take the paint to the store either because I don't have a sample.

You might be able to cut off a piece of the painted drywall paper and get it matched. It is very very difficult to match paint if you don't know what brand/line is on the wall. You can get the color right but the sheen may be different [not all flat is the same level of flat, same for enamels]

You could also view this as an opportunity to change the color on the wall.

Thank you for all the responses. I guess if I can't match, it'll have to repaint job then.

Has anyone heard or use the Color Savvy Mobile Match device? How accurate is it? I don't quite understand about this device. Does it require color refill?

Never used it but keep in mind paint can change color while it's on the wall so touching up with the same can later can fail.

Generally the computer programs the paint store uses needs to be tweaked a little in order to get a perfect match. I had never heard of that device before.
