Double pane window in Denver is a pain

Ok, I'm originally from Florida, where we didn't have double pane windows, so I don't know about this, but...

We have a bathroom window that's gotten filmy and foggy. I tried cleaning it from inside the bathroom, and it wasn't getting the filmy foggy stuff off. So I went outside and tried it from there, and it STILL isn't getting the foggy stuff off.

What appears to be the case, is that the foggy filmy stuff is BETWEEN the two panes!

Is it even possible to get them apart, to clean them? Is this gonna be a pain?

When there is fog between the panes, it means the double paned insulating glass unit (igu) needs to be replaced. It's pretty common to have one fail now and then. Any commercial glass shop can do that for you... you don't need a new window, just change the igu. It is a sealed unit.

It would be worth it for you to call around and get several estimates, because they can vary wildly... Give them an approximate size.

No, you can't take them apart.

Or, depending on your abilities they can be replaced pretty easy.

Lots of videos, need to disassemble the frame to point you can measure the IGU, order, then replace.

Its not if but when they go bad!

Post a picture!
I have to disagree with the other posters.
There is no way to just replace the glass in a double sealed window!
How is someone on site going to be able to remove the glass, create a vacuum, insert argon gas and reseal the glass?
Need a whole new sash.

Joe, an igu is a sealed double pane unit with a dessicant in the spacer inbetween. You replace the entire unit, not just one piece of glass. And there is not a "vacuum" between the glass on an igu. That's a common misconception.

I replace about a hundred of them each year... so I think I know what I'm talking about.

Yes, every window is different, and sometimes you do want to get the entire sash. But any commercial glass company will be able to make that call when they come to measure.
