Can you match this texture?

On to the next room... pattern here is random, raised dots with what looks like a putty knife scraped through. Any idea how to match this?

A very light skip trowel. Thin mud out and roll than a light trowel. Marksr should be in later and may have better way. Will be hard to match.

It almost looks like a cross between skip trowel and being patted with a sponge. How big of an area do you need to texture?

Do you think they started by sponging, or sprayed on popcorn before sponging and troweling?

I need to texture roughly 8' x 1.5'. It's a small bathroom where we replaced the bottom foot of walls after hurricane Harvey flooding. I thought about skim coating the entire walls, but I just finished doing that in our kitchen with a lighter texture to start from, and it was a huge pain thanks to my skill level. I also like this texture in the bathroom - it feels very European.

One good thing is it is low and mostly behind door. Would get a piece of dry wall and practice

Hmm... I've been playing around with it and getting closer. What's messing me up are the raised dots - see below for a thick patch of these with my thumb for scale. Do you think they started with a can of spray popcorn texture, before going over it with a sponge or trowel?

The last pic does look like it might have been sprayed. Texture isn't rocket science and if you get it wrong it's no big deal to scrape it off while wet or sand it down when dry. Don't be afraid to experiment.

Try different nap rollers. Each will give a little different look. A light skip trowel for flat spots.

I don't think this was popcorn spayed but there is aggregate in the texture. Maybe sand, more likely perlite. The chatter in the smoothed off areas indicate there is aggregate in the texture
As others have said. Experiment

Thanks all - perlite or sand looks like it might be the fix. Being in my early 30s, guess I'm too young to have seen much of this. Glad there's plenty of grey (white?) beards on here to lend a brother a hand.

Going to play in the sandbox now and let you know how it turns out.
