Please help with Bryant Model 561C

I woke up this morning, fan blowing warm air. I went outside and the AC was humming with no fan movement. I searched the boards here and got some information. I pushed the fan with a stick and it fired up, so I beleive the capacitor is bad. The problem now is the compressor is not running. My questions are:

1) With the AC on all night with no fan, did the compressor burn out or does it shut down when it over heats?

2) I have everything turned off, will the compressor reset after cooling down?

Any advice is much appreciated.

Thanks,

Brian

1st check the breaker and any fuses that may be in the outdoor unit. If indeed the compressor shut down because of the outdoor fan going out on you yes it would overheat and shut off on internal overload or if equiped would go off due to the manual reset head pressure switch.

Confirm that you have high voltage at the unit though.

Thanks for the reply. I have power to the unit because the fan is working. I'm hoping the compressor will restart with 8 hours to cool down. We'll see. Thanks again.
