how many filters on a central air unit?

I have a central air unit in my house and regularly change the filter that is in the return in my upstairs hallway ceiling. My question is this....is there another filter inside the unit in my attic that needs to be replaced as well, or is the return filter the only one?

thanks

Wink

The one in the hall there could be the only one. But Id look in the unit and see if you have one. You only need one that all the air that goes back to the unit has to go through.

If that's your only return, then more likely is the only filter. But if you have more returns in the home, check them.. Otherwise, won't hurt to pay a visit to your unit in the attic to look it over.. When was the last time You saw it?? If you have sitting in the metal drain pan below the unit, you have problem.
