Air conditioner vented in garage?

My buddy wants to permanently install an air conditioner through the exterior wall of his condo into the attached garage - he doesn't want an unsightly unit hanging out his window year round.

Are there any reasons (codes?) why this wouldn't work?

This should work okay as long as the garage doesn't get too hot in the summer time. Air condioners are really just heat pumps. They extract heat from one location and deliver it out to another enviroment. What they blow out is the air that has heat extracted from it. So if in the garage the heat is too high then the air conditioner will have to work harder to get it cold.

These are my thoughts on the matter.

He will more than likely need some ventilation in the garage to expell the heat generated from the condensor.

no harm done, but it maybe a issue at times..

My aunt and uncle had this set up.. When ever the unit was running, they had to open the windows in the garage, and also open the over head door about a foot.

if they were out of town, the had to keep the unit off since they didn't want to leave the overhead door open.

They end up taking out the a/c and put in a Mini Split system.
