Help A/C froze over now will not turn on!

Hello people, I am hoping to find some guidance to my AC problems. The AC unit in my house is a DEL AIR not sure which model and it I have an electronic thermostat that has an LCD display. Next to my AC there is a regular light switch which turns on the AC unit.
Well on Monday the AC was running but was not cooling. It seems that the unit froze over. So I flipped the switch and turned it off to let it thaw out. My roommate decided instead to turn on the heat while it thaws out. After a couple of hours the AC will not turn on at all now and I have no display at all on the thermostat. I checked the breaker and it seems fine. I flipped the switch a couple of times and the AC made a wierd noise like it was attempting to turn on.
I do not know much about AC units and I was hoping someone can help me out with some things that I should check or do. I do have a home warranty anyone know if this problem may cost me more than what the warranty would cover? If anyone can provide any suggestions on how to trouble shoot this problem it is appreaciated.

Is there anyone out there that can give any advice? I was poking around the AC today and noticed a some sort of pin by the pvc pipe, I pushed it down and now the LCD display has came back up. However when I attempt to turn on the AC it only makes a humming noise, no cool air at all. Please help.
