Compressor Bad?

My C/A condensing unit stopped operating and when I checked it, I could hear an electrical "humm" inside the unit. I was able to get the fan started by giving it a nudge with a small rod that I could get in between the louvers in the top of the unit. Although the condensing unit fan was now running it still didn't sound right, I don't think the compressor was running. Does it sound like I need a new compressor?

Impossible to say without being there....

You need an A/C pro to check it out.... There are any number of reasons a compressor will not kick on, from low freon to bad capacitators......... to a blown motor...

Could be a bad capacitor which might help start the fan and the compressor, if so this would be great for you being their cheap and an easy fix.

Thanks, I had a Tech. come out and look at it. Capacitor was bad. Whew! that was close! Now I can afford that beer.
