Ruud 10 seer iced up

Hello,

I just returned home from vacation to a hot home and 3 inches of ice on the outside of my central air compressor and outside coils. The fan was running on my unit w/out cool air out of the vents. I have flipped the breaker off to let this situation defrost until tomorrow. What do you think? Freon leak, dirty coils, etc.? What should I do next?

Thanks,

Joey

Ruud 10 seer ice

Hello,

Ice just on the compressor and lines going into the house. Also, this morning the ice has melted and I noticed that the filter/coils(?) next to the compressor is filthy/clogged with dirt, etc. What is the best way to clean this?

Thanks,

Joey

Out side unit. Turn power off to it and just use a water hose on it to clean it. "Ice on lines." Is inside coil clean ?? blower wheel clean.? Air filter clean. If so next is low on freon.

Where is the blower wheel?
That is the blower on the inside unit. Or say the blower part that blows the air the blades or wheel its called. They are cupped and if a build up of dirt gets into them. Then they dont blow the air like they should. At outside unit small copper line should be warm . Large copper line cold and wet.

Thanks Ed

I cleaned everything within my capacity. As soon as I turn the unit on there is a small layer of ice which forms on the lines from the compressor to my home, and also on the compressor itself. Also, there is no air blowing into my home.

Is the blower running ?????? If not fix it,dont run the unit with out it on. If the blower is running ok then you are low on freon when the lines ice up.
