a/c not cooling my house

Hi I'm new to this forum so please bare with me.Here is my question.I have an 11yr old ruud achiever 10 seer 4 ton split system. when I turn the unit on it makes a whistle noise as if you removed the schrader valve from your tire.I don't have r22 guages so i can't get readings but doues this sound like an internal valve on the compressor sticking(p.s lots of auto a/c but not home) auto compressor either work or don't not sure about resid. units (thanks)

Could be the internal relief or fan bearings. If you ruled out bearings then you need to call a tech.

Could just be a really clogged coil. Get a tech in there to diagnose it.

up date

just an up date, had to replace evap/coil in air handler. Had a hard time finding a 10 seer so had to go with a 13 and retrofit. Seems to be ok. outside temp 82, 63 at register. The temp in my house went down about 6 degr.in 71/2 hrs.does that sound o.k?.I'm not sure. Thanks for the help.
