outside a/c fan will not shut off

outside a/c fan will not shut off

stopped by my mothers the other day and she told me her outside central a/c fan will not shut off. turned tstat way up.still ran...turn tstat to off...still ran....the blower motor shuts down...and the unit blows cold just fine......the outside ubit will not shut down unless i flip the breaker....any help would be welcome...thanks....btw..it is a trane unit.not sure of model

Sounds like the relay on the condensor has welded its' contacts.

Are you a bit tech and electrical savvy?

You dont say .Does the compressor run to?? If so then bugs could have got up there in the contactor points and burnt like said. Dont let the outside unit run with out the inside fan on.

I have the same problem with my unit.
My question is: How can I find contactor points in my AC unit?
I have Day&Night model, probably 20+ years old.

condenser fan motor

most units are wired to the conpressor contactor. but some have a control relay. have to trace wires back from fan motor are look at the wiring diagram and see where the wires go to. probably the relay needs to be replaced
