A Coil Replacement

I'm trying to help my 72 year old Father with an A coil replacement. Two weeks ago he had a serviceman put in 2.5lbs of freon into his 2.5 ton system for a cost of $119.00. After 4 days the air was not blowing cold. The serviceman returned and did a "nitrogen" test and found a leak in the A coil, at a cost of $84.00. His system is 5 years old and now they're giving him an estimate of $872.20 for an A coil replacement. They will not itemize the written estimate, saying they " push a certain # into the computer system, and the final estimate is all they can do". Can anyone please help me by letting me know if this is a fair price?

Thank you and have a wonderful day!

Elaine

I would not use anyone that did not itemize a quote. That is quote, not estimate.

Get a couple of additional quotes but I think you will find them all in that same ballpark.

That price isn't too bad. Talk with them and they may wave the leak test charge if you give them the job. Make sure they add a suction line drier with the new coil.
