Reroute AC ducts?

My AC ducts are located in ceiling furdowns (sp). I know there is leakage of the cold air as my attic feels cooler than the inside of the house. Since getting to the ducts to retape joints is a big messy job, is it possible to buy new flexible ducts, attach them at the AC unit in the attic and attach to the vents, bypassing the original ducts? Is this a workable solution? Any other ideas?

Thanks,
Nancy A.

A/C ducts

Replacing the ducts with flex is fine if you have the room. Be sure to insulate & seal up the air handler & plenums well.
