Question Alternative air conditioning options

I have hot water heating and I like it. I would like to know what alternatives I have to add air cond. to my house. I have no duct work and would prefer to keep it that way in the basement.
I do have some attic space that I could utilize but do not know wht to look for in air conditioning choices.
Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated.

Wink

Many homes with hot water heat have the AC and duct work up in the attic. Called a split system. the condenser would set outside and you will have a blower coil up in the attic. With the duct work tied to it. Dont know what your fuel cost is there. But you can also make the AC a heatpump. Then run it in mild weather when it gets real cold go over to the boiler. You can go to http://warmair.net and compare fuel cost for where you are.

A/c

It is actually preferable to install a cooling system's duct work in the attic. Cool air wants to fall & you get better cool air distribution from ceiling mounted diffusers, particularly if they are in the center of the room, than you do from floor mounted.

Equipment

A good installation is the key. Careful attention to unit placement & duct installation is critical. Nearly all equipment manufacturers list the sound levels for their outdoor units. Most of the new equipment is very quiet.
