central air conditioning

Can you give a ball-park cost of what installing central air-conditioning might be in the NJ region? I have a two story old victorian house, 3 bedrooms, with steam radiators - so no ducts. But I am reading about ductless systems. Just a rough guess.

Thats hard . Cost are so different across the country. Also you have to see the home or have a print lay out of it To come up with what will work best. Call around and for sure get 3 bids for the job

You are probably limited to one of 3 choices. Ductless mini spits are made where you can connect 2 to 4 indoor sections to a single outdoor section. The problem is routing the refrigerant an drain lines. The other choice would be a high velocity system where the ducts are 2 inches round with special nozzles to distibute the air. The prblems here of course being able to route the ducts and a place to put the indoor air handler section. Choice 3 is window unit type a/c units. Numbers 1 and 2 wll be expensive, so don't blow off the window units just yet. Also, numbers 1 and 2 will have to be custom designed to your house [esp #2] Numbers 1 and 2 are high end systems which means choosing a quality contractor is very important. The first thing to do is make sure the electrical supply to your house is adequate to carry the current that air conditioning will require.
