Let me start off with pictures of the current setup that is being used for a ~950 sq. ft. condo located in Atlanta, GA: http://img504.imageshack.us/img504/493/hvac01ad3.jpg http://img103.imageshack.us/img103/254/hvac02yj6.jpg The unit is about 19 years old (same age as the building) and according to the first contractor to look at it, a 2 ton, 6 to 8 seer unit from ComfortMaker. He did not do any estimates himself and just based the decision off of the exisiting unit. (Chapter J?) Before the next contractor comes out to give a price estimate, I was hoping I might solicit any comments you guys might have about anything related to the job. The first guy has quoted me for the replacement of the indoor unit, indoor heat pump, and the outdoor unit without replacing the ductwork or the copper tubing. The quoted cost for the entire job is $3300 for a 13 SEER unit and $3900 for a 14 SEER unit. Thoughts, comments, concerns?

Looking at putting in air conditioning in an older house. Have oil forced air heat in 1/2 the house. IN the other 1/2 of the house we have electric heat and no ductwork. Had two people come in and look so far. First says I can use the existing furnace/ductwork for the front of the house (says he will have to install a return)- thinks he can barely fit the coil to the furnace. and he would use a heat pump/ductless unit for the back part of the house. Second guy says not enough room for a coil on the existing furnace - said we have a high boy and should have a low boy (new furnace in the last year - so I have no plans to replace it). He wnats to do ductless unit for the front of the house - and a separate ductless unit for the rear (Halcyon wall mount systems) No prices from either yet - they are going to put them in the mail. anyone with any experience with these types of units? Any thoughts on using the existing furnace? Thanks
