Condenser unit fan will not stop.

The fan on the outside condenser unit will not stop running. The digital thermostat has no control of a slowly but steady decrease in temperature regardless of the setting. The the indoor evaporation unit fan turns on periodically to blow cool air. What do you thinK? Thanks.

Most likely the contactor in the outdoor unit is stuck. Do not let it continue to run like this or you will end up damaging the compressor.

If you are electricly capable the contactor is no big deal to change out if that is the culprit. If not call a service tech.

That's good news...

and thanks for your very fast reply! I'm going to search for the schematic to locate the contactor for this American Standard Trane unit. Since there are so many variations on this brand, is there a specific kind of ID number I can find on the unit to ensure I get the proper contactor?
