Unhappy central air unit pricing

Hello! I am in Phoenix; it's quite hot! Our air is out and a reputable tech says we need a new unit. We're desperate to get it fixed, but don't want to get "taken"or to unnecessarily spend extra money.

We've called around, gone to Home Depot and searched the internet high and low, but cannot find the actual prices of central air units ANYWHERE! It is very frustrating and I feel like there's a conspiracy. We're just trying to find the base unit price for: Trane XL 14i, Trane XL 16i or Trane XL 15i.

Those are the units that were recommended to us. Should we go with Trane or are there other reliable, less expensive, brands?

Thanks!
Flint

Prices very by area. you are best to get 3 bids from your area. There are other brands out there will work just as well if it is installed RIGHT.

I like the following brand.
-Trane/American Standard
-Rheem/Rudd
-York
-Carrier/Bryant.

I have a Trane in my own home, and very please with it. Their coil last much longer since it's all the same metal.
