Loud Ac unit

Hi,

I have an outdoor Seer central air unit. Its about 9 years old. Tonight out of no where I hear this thing making a constant loud noise. The fan is working and the unit is blowing cold air, but its making this crazy loud noise! Ive shut it off for now but any help on what this could be? Thanks in advance!

The noise is not coming from the fan side, but the other side of the unit.

The noise is LOUD and constant and kinda whoorling sounding!

Hope that helps?

Are you trying to heat or cool your home??

Is the unit outside tied to the unit inside with copper pipes, or metal ductwork goes to it outside to heat/cool your home from this?

I am trying to cool the house. There is no duct work connected to the unit, just tubing coming from the bottem of the unit going into the house, which has duct work. This is a central air unit which is located outside (my poor neighbors)

We haven't ran our A/c since Sept. :-)

Is there any ice/frost on the coper line outside?

Im in Florida

No, no ice or frost on the wires. The unit will cool even though its running very loud, but the noise is unbearable for a long period of time its that loud. The fan seems to be working just fine, and like I said its still cooling the house when on!

I am going to say the noise is from the compressor, you may be best to call for service.

I would shut the unit down for the night, and open the windows, and call for service in the morning.

How warm is it down there now??

The way you made the sound like, sounds like the compressor is under stress... but hard to hear it on line anyway..

Hey, I'd be happy to send you down 14˚ temps tonight, or 9˚ on Friday?

Ill be happy to take some of that cold weather off your hands

We shut the AC unit off for the night, going to try it again tomm. Hoping that if it is in fact a compressor that it can just be fixed and not replaced!

What does a new compressor run? First born child?? hehe,

Thanks again for the quick responses
