Coleman Sunncutter Thermostat Wiring

I have a Coleman Suncutter HVAC, Model 7436-901 for which I need a new thermostat.

There are 5 wires going to the current manual thermostat: a Red wire and a White wire 'traveling together', and a Red wire, a Green wire and a Blue wire 'traveling together.

My request for assistance is which of these wires correspond to which HVAC control function? Further, which 'modern' thermostat would be the best choice as the replacement for the current one?

It is my understanding that one of the Red wires is to be connected to the power...but...which one, i.e., which of the two Red wires connect to the power?

The Green wire might be connected to the Fan relay, and the White wire to ????. Even more puzzling, is what function does the Blue wire have? Is that the Common wire?

Thank you for any assistance, especially for any wiring direction.

Did you make notes of what wire went where on the old t-stat?

If not, then you are going to have to go to the unit and find out where that wire goes to.

Must be an older unit since I am not able to pull up anything on it. so you'll have to take look for us of what letter that group of wires goes to.

I'd suggest any of the Honeywell Line T-stat.

Coleman Suncutter Thermostat

We looked at the wires going to the current thermostat. Here is what we found...

The 3-wire connection (R, G and Blu) was connected as follows on the thermostat: Green>>>'G'; Red>>'RC'; Blue>>>'Y'

The 2-wire connection was connected to the thermostat as follows: Red>>>>'4'; White>>>>'W'.

Thanks for the direction. If we get the Honeywell t-stat, how should the current wiring be connected to which terminals on the Honeywell unit?

Thanks again.

Wink

Id look inside the unit for sure . Find out what wires color is what. On most units

R is power to the tstat that can go to R--RC and RH Y is to the compressor for cool. G is to the fan relay for fan on W is for heat

The 3-wire connection (R, G and Blu) was connected as follows on the thermostat: Green>>>'G'; Red>>'RC'; Blue>>>'Y'
See if that BLUE goes on out to the compressor

Coleman Suncutter Thermostat Wiring

This morning I tracked the 2-wire (Red and White wire-pair) to the fan motor area. I assume. The red one is the power connection for the fan and the white one is the 'Common' connection, although I don't know.

That now leaves the fate for the 3-wire connection (which goes to the compressor and outside unit). I assume Red is for the power. Since the 2-wire 'cable' goes to the fan unit in the house (the air handling unit), the fate of the Green and Blue wires are still a mystery since we have not taken the cover off the side of the external unit.

Thanks for your continuing support.

Coleman Suncutter Thermostat

Below is the message I received from the site where the Coleman unit is located. The message had 6 photos, none of which came through. How can I get those photos in this message to you? If you send me your email address, I could forward them to you 'off line'.

Subject: 6 great iPhotos

b George call me if you have any questions. The electrician here said the red wire was going to a low voltage transformer. The blue wire connects to the yellow wire and goes to a relay that starts and shuts off the blower motor. The green wire hooks to a green wwire and goes up through the box and hooks up to a high voltage contact and than onto a thermo over load. img 1400 & 1401 are of the green wire. 1402 is the yellow wire. 1403 shows the red, blue, green from the thermostat.
1404 is the red wire hooking into the bottom of the transformer.

Good morning,

I am not able to see the photo, it looks like you may of tried to uploaded the photo right on here from your hard drive?

If so, that won't work. You need to go to a photo host site like imageshack.us or yahoo, then post the link to the photo host site.

I am afraid the photo is not going to help out.. You should get some one in that knows HVAC to have them put it in for you, and may not hurt to have them give your system a good check up before summer comes.
