Outside compressor doesn't turn on when A/C is turned on inside house

The outside condensor unit doesn't turn on when the A/C is turned on inside the house. The inside unit comes on but is of course blowing only hot "attic" air into house.

What can the problem be? Blown fuse for outside unit? Bad thermostat?

Thank you!

Check for 240V on the fuse box that provides power to the condensing unit. If you do not read 240V, either the fuses in there are bad or the contactor in the breaker box may have tripped.

You also should check and see if the contacts of the compressor contactor are closing when the thermostat inside the house is calling for cooling, that will tell if there's 24V feeding it.
