Clanking Central A/C

I have a central A/C in my home. The compressor thing is outside and lately it has been making a clanking kind of noise.

I have no idea what kind it is or how old it is.. my late husband did all that and now I am having to learn. I do know that I recently had an A/C repairman in because it was not working at all and he found a dead bug in one of the sensors. He checked out the unit and told me everything looked fine. Since then I have had 2 episodes where there was a loud clankign noise. I turned the unit off and left it off for an hour or so, then turned it back on. The time between the first one and the second one is about 3 weeks.

I sounds like something is in the blades of the fan, but I can't see anything.

What on earth could be causing this noise?

In most condensors, there is a plastic pipe with the wires to the fan motor running through it. This is to keep the wires from getting involved with the fan blade. If the top was removed, the service guy may have not re-installed that pipe correctly, and it might be hitting the fan blade occasionally. I'd call him back.
