Question Leaking Lennox

I have a Lennox refrigerant evaporator Model CR22-65-TXV-Z. It is installed in the basement next to a Payne gas furnace. The unit has been leaking condensate. I have had two different HVAC service companies look at it.
The drain and lines are totally clean. The condensate pump works great. The drain pan does not have holes. We had the coils cleaned. Thought the pan was not tilted correctly. Used two levels and shims and titled the pan toward the drain line.

No water leaks when the unit is cooling and the fan is on. The condensate is running to the drain, into the pump and everything is OK. What happens is as soon as the blower motor shuts off, water comes running from beneath the metal housing in all directions. It seems like the blower is "holding" the water somewhere and as soon as that pressure is released, the water falls down to the floor instead of running down the coil fins into the drip pan.

Any ideas? Fortunately it is only the basement floor, but have to mop the basement twice a day.

Something is wrong with the drain

Sounds like the fan is being allowed to draw air in through the drain keeping some condensate in the coil case. Then when the unit shuts off all the water can't get out of the drain fast enough and over flows the pan.

Here are 2 files for the CR22 coil. One is cased, one is uncased. Basically the same except one comes in a box, one does not.

Cased: http://tech.lennoxintl.com/PDFs/502965.pdf

Uncased: http://tech.lennoxintl.com/PDFs/502960a.pdf

Would a P-trap solve that problem?

Yes it would and should.

THe files were attached so the original poster can check if the existing traps are as the manufacturer/designer of the coil in question specified.

Smile Leaking Lennox

Thanks for the instruction manuals. I will go out today to get the parts to re-configure the drain.

Should the auxiliary drain be connected? It had a plug in it when we bought the house.

Thanks for your help!

Leaking Lennox

RE-configured the main drain line to the diagram in the installation manual. Same problem. Everything OK until blower shuts off. No clog - piping is brand new. Have used shop vac to make sure no clog in either main drain or aux drain.

Still think it may be drip pan is tilted incorrectly. Will try to get under the backside of the pan to tilt it forward toward the drain.

Is there anything else it could be?

Main and aux lines?

Is there any part of the coil case or drains open to the atmosphere during operation?

How about some pics?
