Central Air outside unit slow to start

My 12 year old central ac is acting "unusual." Used to be when the thermostat kicked in, the fan/blower inside the house turned on at the same time as the outside unit. Lately, the inside blower will come on, but the outside unit may or may not start immediately. Sometimes the outside unit takes up to five minutes to start (meanwhile the inside fan is running). But once on, the ac is running well and cooling.

Am I on my way to some problem? What could be causing this? Should I be worried? Any advice is appreciated!

Outside unit

There are several potential causes for the outdoor unit coming on slowly.
If you have a new thermostat, most have a delay of up to 5 minutes between cycles. Some have that much delay on any call for cooling.
The contactor in the outdoor unit could be weak.
There could be a loose wire (probably control voltage).
The list goes on & on. Intermittent problems are a bear to trace.
