Chemical smell from the air vents

Recently, whenever the air conditioner comes on, the air that comes through the air vents have a paint thinner/varnish type smell. I've been pretty concerned about what that smell might be and have actually turned off the air conditioner for the past few days.

Has anyone ever experienced a problem like this and knows what caused it or how to fix it? Thanks.

Well first, I'd poke around at the return and supplie vents just to see if something is there/was spilt around there, etc. Then, I'd probably clean the evaporator coil and pan.
